2024/25 Men’s Major Pairs Championship

Congratulations to Ashley Mitchell & Mathew Pietersen who are the 2024/25 Men’s Major Pairs Champions. They defeated Gerard Beath & Philip Clarke 25-17 in a rematch of last years final.
Ashely & Mathew had the better start to the final jumping out to a 8-2 lead after 5 ends, then 12-4 after 9 ends. Gerard & Philip began to fight back, winning 4 out of the next 5 ends, reducing the margin to 4 shots, 14-10 after 14 ends. With Gerard & Philip holding a 2 on the 15th end, Mathew played a brilliant conversion shot to pick up a 4 to lead 18-10. A further 2 on end 16 gave Ashley & Mathew a 20-10 lead & 1 hand on the title. Never ones to give up without a fight, Gerard & Philip scored a 2 on the 17th end, followed by a massive 5 on the 18th end to make the margin only 3 shots with 3 ends to go 20-17. That’s as close as they would get though as Ashley & Mathew steadied scoring a pair of 2s to lead 24-17 playing the last end. After the last end was killed a couple of times, Ashley & Mathew scored a 1 to take the match & the Championship 25-17. Congratulations to all 4 players on a great final.
In the Semi Finals, Ashley & Mathew had a hard fought 21-17 win over David Ferguson & Ben Twist 21-17 while Gerard & Philip defeated Mark Rashleigh & Michael Hoyer after Mark had to stop playing due to illness.
